Vee Jay records were pressed by Compo in Lachine, Quebec from the late 1950s through to 1964. By 1964, Quality Records of Toronto had acquired rights to issue some of the Vee Jay catalogue in Canada. Sometime in 1967 Sparton Records Of Canada Ltd. pressed at least one LP on the Vee Jay label (VJLPS 1039 The Best Of Jimmy Reed). Interestingly, no Beatles discs were ever issued in Canada on the Vee Jay label but it would be incredible for a record collector to un-earth a Canadian Compo pressing of the “Introducing The Beatles” album on Vee Jay! Now that would be something!

This record is not an actual Canadian pressing, but is featured here because it is a Canadian Band. Indeed, this Quebec band from the early sixties was called Les Baronets and became quite popular by covering many Beatles songs, translating them in french (like "C'est fou, mais c'est tout - Hold Me Tight", "Twiste et Chante - Twist And Shout" or " Ça recommence - It Won't Be Long" etc.). Other interesting fact is that one member of this band is now quite famous for other reasons: he is now Céline Dion's manager, René Angelil.
So by the time they reached the mid sixties, les Baronets tried to break the American market as "The Baronets" and were secured this US 45 on the VeeJay label. This disc is really obscure and as far as we know, this record never made it past the Promo stage and was never commercially released, making it a true collector's item.

No true Beatles VJ record was ever issued in Canada. The only Beatles related album issued on VJ Canada is actually a Beatles cover album by The Merseyboys called The 15 Greatest Songs of the Beatles (see VJLP 1101 above).
