The Coasters singles offered a source of great material for The Hollies and The Searchers. For The Beatles, the Coasters material was an integral part of their live sets before they were able to rely on their own songs. In my humble opinion, their version of Besame Mucho ranks up their with their very best early live tracks. The Beatles version of Besame Mucho that is included in their Anthology recordings is in fact taken from the Part II version .. the B-side.

Coasters songs that the Beatles performed live included Young Blood, Searchin, Besame Mucho, Three Cool Cats, and of course Sweet Georgia Brown. In Canada, Young Blood, Searchin, Yakety Yak, Charlie Brown, Along Came Jones, Poison Ivy .. all made the top twenty on the CHUM charts. They were all great songs for AM radio play ... and really the brilliance of their songs was that they captured so much sound and feeling in such a short time - each song was like a mini-story. Leiber and Stoller were true craftsmen.

In the 1957 through 1960 period, London Records Of Canada distributed the Atlantic catalogue in Canada. A plain white label was replaced with the solid black label in 1960. The Atco 45s were usually sold with stock London sleeves that listed all of the labels they distributed in Canada. London also issued cool promotional posters that were mailed out to the distributors who then got these down to the record shops.
