Printing Companies Used By Capitol

(by Piers Hemmingsen, *** last updated on Wednesday, October 9, 2002)

Capitol Of Canada used one primary printer between the late 1950s and 1968 and this was "Parrs". The Parrs logo is found on the front of sleeves (eg Beatlemania) and features a large P with two small lines underneath, all in a small box with the text "Litho In Canada". These sleeves accompanied RCA pressed discs as well as Decca/Compo pressed discs.

Between 1968 and the mid 1970s, Capitol used two printers (and no longer used Parrs):

    1. Ever Reddy printers (Montreal-based until the late 1960s when they opened an office in Toronto).

2. Modern Graphics (their logo appears as a stylized M over G which often appears on the spine of the Lp sleeve. These sleeves usually accompanied Decca/Compo pressed Lps.

From the mid-1970s onwards, Capitol used "Shorewood" packaging and their initials SPL appear in a box format logo. At this stage, Capitol had their own pressing equipment.

More specific information on printers used by Capitol is as follows:
